Planning to stay a few days in Quito and thinking which places to visit in Quito? Quito is the beautiful capital of Ecuador, surrounded by mountains and it’s a great place to start your journey to Ecuador. You should stay in Quito few days during your trip, because the city has a lot of interesting places to visit.
The best areas to find hostels/ hotels and restaurants are near to plaza Foch, or the old town. If you like to party, you can find many bars near plaza Foch. The old town, or in Spanish Centro Histórico, is a place to see colonial architecture and churches, museums and parks.

PLACES TO VISIT IN OR NEAR TO QUITO
While in Quito, there are many things to do. Here is a list of places in Quito or near to Quito. Later I’m going to write more specific destination guides to some places in Quito, so stay tuned! Here is my list for you about the places to visit in Quito!
- Mitad Del Mundo, a famous monument (middle of the world) at latitude 00°0000.
- Teleferico, my favorite place to visit in Quito. Has an amazing view of the City and the mountains.
- Old Tow, colonial architecture, old churches and museums.
- La basilica is the biggest church in Quito with an excellent view of the old town.
- Plaza mayor, is the most visited area in the old town and the presidential house is situated next to the plaza.
- Iglesia de la Compañia de Jesus
- Museums
- Museo de la Ciudad
- Banco Central museum
- Otavalo, Ecuador’s most famous handicraft market, Sunday is the official market day.
- Mercado Artesanal La Mariscal, if you don’t plan to visit Otavalo this is a great place to buy souvenirs.
- Park Itchimbía, has a crystal palace and a nice park with a great view over Quito.
- La Vírgen del Panecillo, It’s a famous statue. From there you will have an excellent view over Quito. Always take a taxi from the centrum to go there, it’s dangerous to go by walking.
- Botanical Gardens, situated at the southwest side of Parque La Carolina. Also guided tours.

Remember it can get quite cold in Quito, especially at night.
From Quito it’s easy to continue your travel to other destinations in Ecuador by bus or plane.
